This Street Taco Seasoning has 7 commonly used spices combined for one flavorful spice mix. Use to season chicken, beef, pork and seafood or use on your favorite plant-based protein. Yields just under 1/2 cup.
I recently gave my pantry a much needed make over.
I ripped everything out, painted and put up new shelving and even bought some cute glass spice jars with the black, modern farmhouse labels for all my spices, seasoning blends and dry goods. I’m in love with it with it. Everything is (in my opinion) more aesthetically pleasing to the eye and easily accessible. Instead of sifting through a drawer, I can open my pantry and quickly grab what I need. I’ll most likely share the before and after photos in my year in review but for now, let me introduce to you SS’s latest spice blend.
Street taco seasoning.
It’s a smidgen spicy (chili powder) with a hint of smokiness (smoked paprika) and together these 7 spices make one darn good spice blend. Use it on chicken, beef, pork and shrimp or your favorite plant-based protein.
To Make This Street Taco Seasoning You Will Need:
- chili powder
- garlic powder
- onion powder
- paprika
- smoked paprika
- kosher salt
- ground black pepper
What Are The Best Spices For Making Your Own Seasonings and Spice Blends?
There’s no right or wrong brand. I will first say, buy what you can afford. However, not all spices are created equal as you tend to get what you pay for. Currently I use Morton & Bassett (not sponsored) because I find their spices to be top notch in texture, color and flavor. I love and respect what their company stands for not only with charitable work but also quality control. With that said some other wonderful brands I’ve used over the years are Simple Organic, Frontier Co-op and Penzys.
In a glass jar or container with a tight-fitting lid, measure and add 4 tablespoons chili powder, 1 tablespoon garlic powder, 2 teaspoons onion powder, 2 teaspoons paprika, 1 teaspoon each smoked paprika, kosher salt and ground black pepper.
Mix well to combine.
This makes just under a half cup.
Store your Street Taco Seasoning in a container with a tight fitting lid in a cool dry place for up to 2 years.

If I could rate this recipe 0 stars I would
While I do respect your opinion, it would have been more helpful if you had left a reason why. I spent months perfecting this recipe and have made it dozens of times – definitely not worth 1 star. So it baffles me that you would leave this review without a reason. Did you even make it?
I had a little store bought Street taco seasoning left but needed more. I made this recipe and it was better than store bought! So yummy! Will be saving this recipe for future reference.
I’m so glad to hear it, Chelsea!
Yep, I just made this seasoning to make street tacos with some left over rib roast I have and, wow!, it is delicious. I used seasoned pepper and added some cayenne pepper for extra heat and it’s great!
I made the street tacos w goat cheese, which sounds like an unusual combination but it worked. This may become my go to snack. This seasoning would also be good on burgers and fajitas. Yum.
So glad you enjoyed this recipe, Crystal! And thank you for leaving such a great review!
I’m sure this is nice for chili, but there is nothing specific in this recipe that distinguishes it from a good ole homemade chili or taco seasoning. I’ve had many different vendors’ street tacos, and they don’t taste like a bowl of taco meat
I AJ, thanks for reaching out! Your comment is a little confusing and I’m also unsure as to why you rated this recipe one star without even trying it. But with that said, the name of this recipe is Street Taco Seasoning, meant for seasoning protein for tacos (inspired by street tacos), not chili. And I personally wouldn’t use it for chili without testing it first. One ingredient that’s typically in chili and/or traditional taco seasoning is cumin. Since this recipe doesn’t include that ingredient, it sets it apart from traditional taco or chili seasoning. Thanks for stopping by, I hope this helps clear things up. 🙂
As a followup, I did make this recipe, and while it does not use cumin, perfectly true, it still just tastes like taco seasoning. Smoked paprika can have a cumin-like effect, actually. I just prefer a tangy, fresher taste to my street tacos.
