I love a handheld breakfast and this Fried Egg Sandwich is just that. Hearty bread is toasted and topped with cheese and perfectly seasoned fried eggs. This recipe makes 1 sandwich but can easily be doubled or tripled.
Perfect for breakfast or lunch!
This recipe is yet another one of my childhood favorites. Although I’m pretty positive my mom put ketchup on hers, I however swapped that out for cheese. 👍🏻 I’m not the biggest fan of ketchup, unless it is used in a recipe. But please feel free to add or dip it in some ketchup if you like!
When I make fried egg sandwiches for my girls, they always ask if the special salt is on the eggs, which would be my homemade version of Lawry’s all purpose seasoning salt. I never fry eggs without it and it’s what makes this sandwich so fantastic!
To Make The Best Fried Egg Sandwich You will Need:
- olive oil spray
- bread
- white American cheese
- eggs
- all-purpose seasoning salt
- fresh black pepper
Toast your bread. Once the toast pops and is still hot, lay your slice of cheese on top. The heat from the toast will start softening the cheese up a bit. I love to use white American however, havarti, cheddar or any good melty cheese will do.
Spray a 10-inch pan with olive oil and heat over medium heat. I used to fry my eggs in a ton of both butter and oil, which is totally unnecessary. Once the pan is hot, carefully crack in your eggs.
I only fry a couple of eggs at a time. This way you have plenty of room to flip over your eggs.
Next sprinkle with seasoning salt and black pepper.
I like my egg yolks on the runny side but the whites must be cooked. So I wait until the whites are opaque and then I carefully flip. I don’t use a timer, but if I had to guess it’s about 20 to 30 seconds or so on the second side.
Then I place the two fried eggs on cheesy toast and place the second slice on top.
Finally, cut in half diagonally.
And there you have it the best fried egg sandwich ever! Although it’s not too shabby with a couple pieces of bacon sandwiched in there too.
Enjoy! And if you give this Best Fried Egg Sandwich recipe a try, let me know! Snap a photo and tag me on twitter or instagram!

Looks awesome! I love the runny yolks . . . my husband not so much, and he doesn't know what he's missing. I will definitely be making this.

I will ALWAYS make my fried egg sammies with Lawry's. It is so amazing!! AND I have to tell you…after all the packing for the move..out of the 4 seasonings I have left to take with me are Cinnamon, salt, pepper and Lawry's. 🙂 xo
Those are some great pictures! Looks delicious. I am going to try it on an english muffin!

This looks so good! I've yet to fry an egg without cracking the yolk (which I HATE), so I have to stick with steaming mine.
It is 8:30 at night, I have already eaten dinner but I wanna go make this right now. I never thought to leave the yolk soft for an egg sandwich.
Yum.. I need one of those now 🙂
I just made this for breakfast and it was delicious!
Yummy! I love making fried egg sandwiches for lunch when we're low on groceries… so delicious and satisfying! And yours sounds extra tasty. Thanks for sharing a way to spice up the old classic 🙂
Place folded slices side-by-side on the bread, rather than stacking them on top of one another.
Just made this and it was SO easy and delicious!
Being able to eat healthy and delicious food is very important especially for breakfast. This fired egg sandwich is a great example of such. Its nutritional value is a great way to jump start anyone's day, just like bagels. Thank you for sharing.
We prefer our egg sammiches scrambled instead of fried – but I'll have to try the Lawry's trick next time!
Nothing, but nothing beats an egg sammich with bacon on a weekend morning. NOTHING!
Breakfast is said to be the most important meal of the day. This egg sandwich recipe is perfect for such since it is not just delicious but also healthy. Thanks for sharing a wonderful and nutritious recipe.

Best way to have a fried egg sandwich is on soft white bread with a slice of American cheese and Miracle Whip! I don’t like Miracle Whip on anything else but it gives this sandwich the little sweet zing that makes it perfect!
I think it’s just missing some meat.
I pretty well do the same thing. Just never used salt let alone seasoning salt, I will try that but I do like to switch up my meat something, so either bacon ham, sausage or even bologna. A lot that sounds gross but the bologna is sometimes my favorite. Bacon is wicked to fry the egg in afterwards also. Sometimes I’ll even do an all meat with fried green and red peppers along with just using the yolk. The whites could be used for making a French toast style bread also. And of course always using cheese. The type of bread you use is also very crucial. I like Texas toast or rye bread as rye bread gets hard when toasted but the Texas style is a very good egg to break ratio and when scrambled, you add to desired amount. I just made myself so hungry.
I like the way you think! 🙂
This is the best and most classic/perfect fried egg sandwich recipe! FINALLY! Thank you!
I was looking for sandwich inspo and came across your recipe. I made this sandwich for my kids and they gobbled it up. Will definitely make this recipe again.
