Today I’m sharing with you a simple chipotle blend that is delightfully smoky and flavorful! 7 dried herbs and spices are combined to make one robust spice mix that will blow your mind. Okay, so maybe I’m being a tad dramatic. However, 2 tablespoons of this magical stuff does wonders for ground turkey, chicken or beef. In the past, I’ve tossed chicken breasts with it plus a smidgen olive oil before grilling. So good!
Who needs pre-made packets when homemade is always a million times better and just as easy?
To Make This Smoky Chipotle Seasoning You Will Need:
- chipotle chili powder
- regular chili powder
- ground cumin
- kosher salt
- smoked paprika
- Mexican oregano or regular
- garlic powder
- onion powder
Totally forgot the cumin in the ingredient shot 😔
Into a glass jar or container with a tight fitting lid, measure and add 2 tablespoons ground chipotle powder, 1 tablespoon regular chili powder and 1 tablespoon ground cumin. Next, measure and add 2 teaspoons kosher salt, 2 teaspoons smoked paprika, 2 teaspoons Mexican oregano. Crushed the oregano with your fingers after measuring and add it into the jar. My mom always does this, but not only does it break the oregano into smaller pieces but I believe it also helps release some of the aromatics of the dried herb. Lastly add 1 teaspoon both garlic and onion powder.
Stir well to combine.
And that’s it my friends. So easy!! One recipe yields 8 tablespoons and I use 2 tablespoons per 1 pound package of meat. If using with veggies, I typically use about 1 tablespoon – it really just depends.
I love the deep rusty red color of this spice blend!
Lastly, store in an air-tight jar in a cool, dry spot for up to 6 months or longer.
