Ever have a salad topped with delicious, sugar coated candied walnuts? If you have, high-five. For those of you who haven’t, you’re totally missing out.

Candied walnuts taste like warm bowl of sugary oatmeal.

Weird? Maybe. However my fellow oatmeal lover and youngest daughter, Malloree and I came to the same conclusion.

They are perfect crushed over ice cream, mixed into yogurt or layered in a parfait. Or snag a few for a quick sweet treat!

TO Make Candied Walnuts You Will Need:

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • a pinch of kosher salt
  • 1 egg white
  • 8 ounces walnuts
  • olive oil spray, for greasing your pan.

First, in a medium mixing bowl, combine 1/2 cup sugar, 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground nutmeg and a pinch of salt.

Whisk to combine.

Next, in a different mixing bowl, whisk an egg white with with a splash of water until frothy.

Add in 8 ounces of walnuts (or about 1 cup) into the frothy egg whites.

And toss well to coat.

Next, add the coated nuts to the bowl with the sugar.

Toss to combine, and until the sugar is all used up and coating the nuts

Spread out evenly onto a lightly sprayed metal baking sheet and bake on the middle rack of your preheated 250° oven for 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes.

How to Store Candied Walnuts?

Once cool, store candied walnuts in an air-tight container.

How Long Will Candied Walnuts Last?

If store properly, these candied nuts will keep for 2 weeks or freeze for up to 1 month.

Ever have a salad topped with delicious, homemade candied walnuts? It couldn't be any easier! Serve in parfaits, on salads or as a quick sweet treat! yields about 2 cups or 16 (2 tablespoon) servings.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 egg white
  • 8 ounces walnuts

Instructions 

  • Preheat your oven to 250° and spray a rimmed baking sheet.
  • In a medium mixing bowl, combine the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and a pinch of salt. Whisk to combine.
  • In a seaport bowl,t whisk the egg whites with a splash of water until foamy. Add in the walnuts and toss to coat.
  • Next add the coated walnuts to the sugar mixture, tossing well to combine.
  • Spread evenly onto the prepared pan and bake for 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes.
