Creamy Parmesan Garlic Mashed Potatoes

These Creamy Parmesan Garlic Mashed Potatoes are perfectly cheesy, garlicky and crazy smooth! You will love these mashed (or whipped?) potatoes.

If there’s one thing I hate about making mashed potatoes, is the mashing part. I usually hand over the potato-masher-thingy to Pat, smack him on the rear and say “hop to it!”

Just kidding, or am I? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Parmesan Garlic Mashed Potatoes l SimplyScratch.com

So good news, if you hate mashing potatoes like I hate mashing potatoes… then I’m about to change that for one of you.

Bodum Collage

{SORRY GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED}Thanks to the good folks atย Bodumย one of you lovely SS readers will be getting a free Bistro Electric Blender Stick {yes with the accessories!} ย AND you get to pick the color you want, I went with the black, how cool is that?ย The whole set includes the stick blender, a storage cup with a lid and three blade attachments. From baby food to soup and smoothies there isn’t anything this blender can’t do. No more pouring soup into a blender for me… I’m in total love with this appliance!

So when I received my Bodum blender and read that I could whip up creamy, silky mashed potatoes with a press of a button. I had to put it to the test with my most favorite mashed potato recipe. Parmesan Garlic Mashed Potatoes. They’re usually slightly lumpy since it’s almost impossible to mash every single lump out by hand… until today.

These are the potatoes I made to go along with my prime rib and those caramelized brussles sproutsย on Christmas Eve. And lemme just tell ya, these creamy spuds have itย goin’ on… cheese, garlicย and two cups of half & half {because two cups of heavy cream would be just insane!}.

creamy-parmesan-garlic-mashed-potatoes-peeled

Start by peeling 3 to 3-1/2 pounds of Yukon gold potatoes.

Depending on their size, quarter or sixth { ย ๐Ÿ™‚ } the potatoes.

Drop them into a large stock pot and cover with cold water.

creamy-parmesan-garlic-mashed-potatoes-season-water

Add in a half tablespoon of kosher salt to the pot before covering with a lid and bringing to a boil. Cook the potatoes until they are fork tender… a fork should meet ZERO resistance when piercing the spud.

Meanwhile: press 3 garlic cloves into a sauce pan.

Get everything you can out of those cloves!

Now you’ll need four tablespoons or half a stick of unsalted butter.

Over medium heat, saute the garlic until fragrant and soft.

Add in two cups of half and half and turn the heat down to low, so it keeps the half & half warm while the potatoes finish cooking. For a thicker mashed potato cut back on the half and half to 1-1/2 cups.

Once the potatoes are cooked, drain them in a large colander…

Then dump them back into the pot.

Add in the warm, garlicky half & half.

Now I’m a little new to the whole blender stick thing, so I just grabbed an attachment and put it to work.

creamy-parmesan-garlic-mashed-potatoes-blend

I turned it on the highest speed and things started to happen… by this was extremely comfortable to hold!

Also I thought it worked fabulous and in less than 4 minutes my potatoes were just about done.

Next I added in the half cup of Parmesan cheese.

Parmesan Garlic Mashed Potatoes l SimplyScratch.com

And of course now you just have to season the Parmesan Garlic Mashed Potatoesย to taste with salt and pepper.

And a little extra butter to the top of your Parmesan Garlic Mashed Potatoes, if that’s your thing– which is totally my thing. Unless, of course there’s gravy nearby.

Creamy Parmesan Garlic Mashed Potatoes

Cheesy, garlicky and crazy smooth mashed {or should I say whipped?} potatoes.

Yield: 8-10 servings

Prep Time: 15 Minutes

Cook Time: 30-35 minutes

Total Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients:

3 to 3-1/2 pounds yukon gold potatoes, peeled and quartered

1/2 tablespoon of kosher salt

2 cups half and half

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

3 cloves fresh garlic, pressed through a garlic press

1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, freshly grated

kosher salt and black pepper, to taste

Directions:

Throw the peeled and quartered potatoes into a large pot and fill with cold water. Season with a half tablespoon of kosher salt, cover and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook until a fork meets zero resistance when piercing a potato.

While the potatoes cook, add pressed garlic and the four tablespoons of butter into a saucepan. Saute on medium heat until the garlic is fragrant and soft. Add in the two cups of half and half and reduce the heat to low to keep warm.

Once the potatoes are cooked, drain into a large colander and place them back into the pot. Pour in the warm buttery, garlicky half and half. Using an immersion blender or even a hand mixer, blend until there are no lumps remaining.

Add in the grated Parm and season with salt and black pepper. I taste as I go... that's the best part!

Ugh, these mashed potatoes look heavenly. I am beyond mad that I do not have half-and-half since I have a bowl of potato innerds that have been sitting in my fridge since I made potato skins for the Super Bowl. Maybe it’s time to chuck them anyway, I wouldn’t want to ruin this recipe with terrible potato innerds!

My hubby always puts lemon in our mashed potatoes ( He’s the cook, I’m the baker). We use to only be able to have “smashed” potatoes instead of “mashed” potatoes! Whenever we use to attempt at mashing our potatoes, our oh so lovely neighbor (we use to live in a apartment) would bang on the walls! Our apparent potato mashing abilities were too loud! So now that we don’t live there anymore, I am writing this delicious looking recipes down and mashing some potatoes!! Hopefully soon with a Bodum ๐Ÿ˜‰

I love mashed potatoes but always just used milk and butter and used my hand mixer. The addition of garlic and cheese sounds wonderful and I will have to try it. This Bodum sounds like a great new addition to my kitchen gadgets and will be useful for many things. I make a lot of smoothies and getting out that big blender sometimes is a pain. Thanks for all your great recipes.

My mom, Ericha, showed me this website last year and my boyfriend and I have been addicted to it ever since. All of our friends loved when I made the homemade pizza dough, roasted red pepper sauce and loaded it up with fresh mozzarella (my boyfriend works at the Dairy Plant at MSU ๐Ÿ™‚ Fresh cheese YAY!!) and lots of fresh veggie toppings! Now, I always keep a jar of roasted red peppers in the house, just in case I feel the need for some pizza! We can’t wait to try the frozen yogurt (especially because Jeff makes ice cream at the dairy plant!). We love that we can make everything from scratch and make it healthier than the pre-packaged, processed alternatives! You’re site is a lifesaver – I’m really bad at planning dinners throughout the week and your site makes it so easy! Looking forward to more posts and getting them daily by e-mail! We liked Bodum on FB (P.s. we love our coffee press from them!)
