There are two ways you can soak beans. The first is to add them to a large bowl and cover them with water by 2-inches. Or you can do the quick method as shown in the steps below.

Place the sorted beans in a colander and rinse them under cold water.

Add them to a medium-sized pot and cover with hot water, about 6 cups.

Cover and bring to a boil, cooking the beans in a rolling boil for 2 minutes.

Drain the beans; you willll notice the skins starting to pull back.

Place the beans back in the pot, cover with fresh cool water and bring back to a boil. Once the water is boiling, reduce the heat to low and simmer for 1-1/2 to 2 hours or until the beans are tender.

Drain and set them off to the side. You could even make the beans a few days in advance and just store in an airtight container in the fridge.
