Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Blondies

Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Blondies are sweet, chewy and packed with lots of flavor. What makes these blondies extra special is browning the butter beforehand. It adds a delicious and subtle nuttiness. Yields 16 squares.

  • 1 stick 1/2 cup or 8 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup light brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • cups unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips


  • Preheat your oven to 350° and line a 9x9 pan with parchement, leaving an in or so overhang, and spray with nonstick baking spray.
  • Heat butter in a small skillet over medium-low heat. Stir ofte until lightly golden brown. Remove off of the heat and pour into a large heat-safe bowl and cool.
  • Once the browned butter has cooled, add in the sugar, egg and vanilla. Use a rubber spatula and mix until combined.
  • Next, add in the flour, salt and baking powder. Mix until just a trace of flour is left. Add in the chocolate chips and mix until even distributed.
  • Bake on the middle rack of your oven for 25 minutes or until a tester comes out clean with only a few crumbs attached.
