Ingredients

  • 1 15 ounce tomato sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon sugar optional
  • 3 tablespoon butter divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon italian seasoning
  • tablespoons of freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 6 brioche dinner rolls or challah buns cut in half horizontally
  • 12 slices sandwich pepperoni found at the deli, about 1/4 pound
  • 1 cup grated mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°.
  • In a 10-inch skillet add the tomato sauce, basil, salt, garlic powder and sugar. Heat over medium to medium-low until the sauce bubbles. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Meanwhile add 2 tablespoons of butter and 1/2 teaspoon Italian Seasoning to a small saucepan. Heat on low and melt. Do not let it bubble. Remove off of the heat and add in Parmesan. Stir and set off to the side.
  • Once the sauce has simmered and is thick, stir in a tablespoon of butter. Spoon sauce onto the bottom half of dinner rolls and spread. Top with two slices of pepperoni and a tablespoon or so of grated mozzarella cheese.
  • Bake sliders (open faced) for 8 to 10 minutes or until cheese has melted. Replace the top but and brush with Parmesan herb butter, bake for 4 more minutes.
  • Allow the sandwiches to cool for a few minutes before eating.
