Naturally Sweetened Skillet Applesauce

Make this homemade Skillet Applesauce in under 20 minutes! Apples simmer in a skillet with lemon juice, water, spices, maple syrup until tender and then mashed by hand. Delicious warm with an extra sprinkle of cinnamon or swirled into oatmeal!

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds apples like Cortland, McIntosh or Golden Delicious
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 12 lemon juiced
  • 2 teaspoons pure maple syrup omit for unsweetened
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 pinch kosher salt

Instructions

  • Peel, core and dice 3 pounds of apples and place them into a deep-sided skillet.
  • Add in the water, lemon juice, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Bring to a simmer, cover and cook for 30 minutes or until tender.
  • Use a masher and mash until a thick applesauce forms.
  • Serve warm or allow to cool completely before storing in an air-tight container and refrigerated for up to 6 days.
