A Baby Shower…

It’s here!

It’s finally here!!

My best friend is 33 weeks… And it’s time for the baby shower!!!

Since her shower was going to be at my place, it gave me an excellent excuse to buy neat things like an ice bucket, serving trays and green and white plaid tablecloth! I had lots of help to pull off this shin-dig. Thank you Shelly, Meaghn, Heidi for all your help with gift baskets, cupcakes, sandwich making and loaning of extra chairs… it was all greatly appreciated and wouldn’t have been what it was without you!

Now that the table is set, the balloons blown {not by me… thank you kind dollar-store-guy who gave me an extra free balloon… we are now friends for life!} All that is needed to make this party happen is a house full of guests and one pregnant best friend!

As we all know, besides the presents, the food is the next important thing at a baby shower. Presents, food and then the drinks… in that order, am I right or am I right? Being the “food blogger” friend I felt compelled to make something fancy and delicious, I actually started to obsess over the menu, it got a bit ridiculous. Luckily for me, Nichole pulled me out of my obsessive stupor and smacked me back into reality… she wanted simple… and so I gave her simple. Simple… served up on a melamine platter. 🙂

I made my go-to recipe… Fancy Schmancy Chicken Salad. Filled with delicious rotisserie chicken {some things you just can’t scratch unless you have a rotisserie in your kitchen… which I don’t and if you do I’m totally jealous}! Besides the chicken, there are also juicy red grapes, celery and toasted pecans all tossed in a creamy poppy seed dressing and sandwiched in between buttery, soft and flaky croissants! Delicious!

Great. Now I want one!

Then I made a simple tossed salad, with bright sweet bell peppers, tomatoes and cucumbers… this salad takes about 7 minutes to toss together… that’s what I’m talkin’ bout!!!

Then by request from the baby’s momma, were melons, watermelons and cantaloupe… ripe, sweet and juicy! She also requested Caramelized Shallot and Blue Cheese Dip… hey she’s pregnant {for some it’s pickles and peanut butter sandwiches, for Nichole it’s melon and shallot blue cheese dip… and sweets!} To each his own I guess… so I just made what she wanted!

Then there was dessert. Meaghn, Nichole’s sister, makes delicious cupcakes. These were chocolate with a hidden surprise in the center. Cream cheese and chocolate chips which baked perfectly inside these individual cakes of heaven! The filling reminded me of cannoli filling… OMG they were so good!! I love how Meg sprinkled pink and blue on top… because Nichole decided not to find out what she is having… we all have to wait… it’s cruel yet surprisingly exciting!! Meaghn I need this recipe!!!

The presents… Just look at all that baby LOOT!! Although a small-ish gathering people brought tons of generous gifts for this highly anticipated baby! Nichole is one lucky girl and I’m sure she felt all the love in the air!!

Friends and family gathered around downstairs eagerly watching to see what Nichole was going to open next. We laughed and cracked jokes about Nichole having a girl, reminisced about how far diaper bags have come over the years and that with the second baby {and 9 years of mothering under your belt} you’ve learned what you actually do need the first year and what you can live without… It was great!

It was such a fun shower… Nichole was radiant! She seriously was glowing… the only kind of glow an expecting mother can exude. Happy Shower Day Nichole!

LOVE ,

Your Bestie 🙂

Were there games? I'm in charge of coming up with an ice breaker kind of game for a baby shower. I don't like silly shower games but need something to get everyone comfortable – any ideas out there?
