Project Food Blog & Simply Scratch Challenge #1
Calling all friends, friends-of-friends, family, neighbors, co-workers and even you strangers!! I have entered to WIN the Foodbuzz “Project Food Blog Challenge”! What is Foodbuzz? Foodbuzz is an online food bloggers community, where one can go and submit a recipe, blog post, restaurant review etc. What is Project Food Blog? It is a contest for all Foodbuzz featured publishers to possibly win {*gasp} $10,000 and be featured on their site for one year!! There is roughly 1,900 bloggers fighting tooth and nail to win this money! A selection committee will be narrowing it down challenge by challenge over a series of 10 challenges to determine the final winner and who will become The Next Food Blog Star!
The first challenge….*cue the drum roll* is blogging about what defines me as a blogger and why I feel my blog should win “Project Food Blog”! Well that shouldn’t be so hard…right? Only the fact of 10 grand is riding on this very post!!!! No pressure… right? But if you, your friends, grandparents, neighbors and/or any stranger that should pass you by… would be so kind and click on the link and vote for me beginning September 20th… I would greatly appreciate it {my girls need to go to college}!!!
So here it goes… I started this blog first and foremost because I love to cook, bake and eat yummy food! I think, breath and dream food! Secondly I have this passion for cooking from scratch, there just is something about knowing each and every ingredient that I put into the food I make and serve to my family. Thirdly, I want to show people that cooking from scratch is not only healthier but fun and delicious! My step-by-step photos help out the home cook while preparing a meal, once a follower has told me that she puts her laptop on to her countertop to scroll through as she cooks! If I had a laptop that would sure save me from running room to room! But that IS a form of exercise… right?
I am aware that there is a million and one “from scratch” web sites out there and I know YOU want to know how mine sets apart from the others. Well, I’ll tell ya… mine comes from my heart, my home, my family and my kitchen. I prepare all my recipes in my tiny kitchen here in Michigan. They are tried and true, and for the most part, simple recipes. I believe my site gives inspiration to those who may not feel confident in the kitchen. I give tips and tricks to help the home cook move easily through a recipe and I can even say that I have developed also as a home cook throughout my blog! Not to toot my own horn but I was one of eight 2010 featured blogs on HealthCastle.com… I about freaked to be on the same list as Jaden of Steamy Kitchen! TOOT!!
I have a family and I work full time so I can totally relate!! My blog shows the working mom or dad that cooking from scratch is not only easy but obtainable for the busy work week, relaxing weekend morning or an evening entertaining while avoiding fast food and all of the surplus unhealthy ingredients. I feel as if Simply Scratch is the bridge between the cooking “from a box” mentality to the more refined cook. My recipes are those that anyone can repeat at home in their very own kitchen and as a rule, I don’t use ingredients that you couldn’t find at a local grocery store, market, co-op or farm stand. I take pride in making food that is approachable and recipes that are user friendly.
Now… what defines ME. I try to put the best food into my family’s mouth. I buy organic, hormone free, non hydrogenated and unrefined when I can. I am human… and I am not perfect, I AM realistic! This blog is my way of sharing what I know, how I cook and what my family eats. Period… and have loads of fun, tears and good laughs along the way!
Check out these two recipe posts… they are my fav!

I too believe in the benefits of making things from scratch, but I have little choice because I am in Bulgaria. Best of luck with PFB!!!
Nice post, cooking from scratch is becoming a lost art. Best of luck in the PFB Challenge!
Your blog and family are adorable.
Hopefully if enough people catch on to the dying art of home cooked meals then maybe the memories and recipes will not be forgotten! Best Wishes and best of luck!
